The International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS) organizes a quadrennial Congress, typically accompanied by a satellite teaching workshop. The next IUPS Congress will be held in Frankfurt (11-14 September 2025), followed by an IUPS Teaching Workshop in Löwenstein (14-16 September 2025), the first of its kind in Mainland Europe in two decades.
The IUPS Education Committee aims to enhance physiology education by promoting modern knowledge, evidence-based teaching practices, skill development, and innovative educational strategies, including the use of generative AI. The workshop responds to global efforts to improve university education and the need for shared best practices in the region.
The venue, Evangelische Tagungsstätte Löwenstein, offers a secure and well-equipped environment with conference, dining, and residential facilities, set in a culturally rich and natural setting.

Teaching workshop objectives
The objectives of this workshop are to:
provide a platform to discuss problems related to teaching the basic sciences and find their solutions
create a sustainable collaboration between physiologists and basic scientists in this region for learning and educational research
train physiologists and basic scientists in new teaching strategies
discuss current paedagogic research
strengthen the participants’ ability to develop and evaluate curricula
promote collegial relations and collaboration between international and regional universities. It will be a platform for exploring cooperation in teaching and research.
